Loyola Alumni Relations · Black Hawk Down Screening Invitation
One of Loyola's most notable alumni is author and journalist Mark Bowden. His book Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War was adapted as a motion picture and released in late 2001. The event was an exclusive first screening in the Baltimore area for Loyola alumni only. Directed by Academy Award winner, Ridley Scott, the film depicts the events of the 1993 raid in Mogadishu by the U.S. military that led to the downing of a Black Hawk helicopter, and the ensuing battle.
The event was organized under a very quick, one-week schedule and a tight budget. Inspiration for the design drew heavily from the hardcover book design and from the marketing for the film. Working with Columbia Pictures’ marketing office and Bowden himself to develop the design direction.
